The 2019 Cricket World Cup is over but the cricketing fraternity is yet to learn whether Mahendra Singh Dhoni has completed his journey. The ace wicketkeeper-batsman hasn’t revealed his future plans as yet and reports suggest that chief selector MSK Prasad will meet him for ‘make or break’ talks over his retirement from international cricket so that he walks away with his head held high.
Dhoni had a fairly decent fourth World Cup and almost took India to the final when he and Ravindra Jadeja launched a massive counter-attacking game against New Zealand after the top order crumbled for almost nothing. Dhoni scored 273 runs in the tournament at an average of just below 46 with two fifties but it is his slow approach with the bat that had won him brickbats till that emotional exit in the semi-final at Old Trafford.
India next tour the West Indies for a full-fledged tour and words that are doing the rounds is that the Ranchi cricketer might not be an automatic choice any more for the selectors feel his batting is no more the force it was and there are young players waiting in the wings to replace the veteran who has served Indian cricket for 15 years now.
While the world was feeling restless about Dhoni’s call of retirement, India Women’s cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy is of the opinion that the former should be left alone to take his own decision.
Veda Krishnamurthy thinks MS can still be in the team
“As a cricketer, MS is someone I would want to look up to and I really admire he really goes about cricket, the way he plays. He’s been outthinking cricketer, he is very very smart. For people who are actually sitting and speculating about his retirement or all of it, it is his life. He is the better one to whether choose he wants to walk away from the game or not. If you ask me, he’s got everything in him to just be in the team. I think he’s the best,” the 26-year-old Veda was quoted as saying by NNIS Sports.
She said Dhoni has won India several big tournaments and asked people not to speculate about what he is going to do for she thinks he doesn’t do what one wants him to do. Veda, who has played in 48 ODIs and 59 T20Is, added that the former India captain knows it better than many others and she didn’t want to make a fool of herself by speculating.
