Rahkeem Cornwall debuted at the highest level for the West Indies as the heaviest international cricketer. Weighing a stunning 140 kgs, he was roped in as Miguel Cummins’ replacement for the second Test versus India at the Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica. In his very innings as a Test cricketer, he picked up three wickets and also bowled the most number of overs for the home team.
Cornwall also came up with some funny moves, which were pretty reminiscent of Steve Smith, the world number two Australian Test batter. Smith is currently in England playing the high-voltage Ashes. The Sydney-born has batted brilliantly and hardly allowed any Brits’ bowler to get under his skins. His confidence also showed in the manner he was leaving the ball outside off-stump.
He danced around the crease and showed his unique styles of letting the ball go. It drew some hilarious response from the netizens. Later, even Jofra Archer, who hit Smith around the neck at the Lord’s developing a concussion for the latter, was seen imitating Smith. It was now the turn of Cornwall to replicate Smith’s moves at the batting crease when the score was at 87 for seven.
West Indies in a rabbit hole
After his three wickets in the first innings, Cornwall failed to get even one in the second, bowling as many as 23 overs, again the most by a West Indies’ bowler. However, the Antigua-born now has a huge task ahead of him. Virat Kohli and Co have set the Caribbean team a humongous target of 468 in the fourth innings and the home team is also two wickets down at the score of 45 in 13 overs.
Even as John Campbell fell prey to Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma got the other opening batsman in Kraigg Brathwaite. Darren Bravo and Shamarh Brooks, playing only his second Test, are in the middle with the West Indies needing 423 more runs and a couple of days still remaining.
Bearing in mind the Indian bowlers’ form, Cornwall coming to bat seems to be a matter of time. Jasprit Bumrah, who picked up a six-wicket haul in the first innings, is yet to pick up a wicket in his five overs. Jason Holder’s men need to pull off something miraculous in order to deny India a win.
