Cricket, a team sport, in which focus always remains on a team’s collective competition against its rival, has seen some of the individual battles being fought on the field. These contests have been known to bring out the best performances of its contestants. Recently, former Australian cricketer, Dean Jones expressed his curiosity to see a contest between Rohit Sharma and David Warner.
The Australian team will be touring India from the 14 January, for a 3 match One Day International series. The bilateral series, though having only One Day Internationals will give a chance to both the sides to assess the preparations of each other for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.
Both India and Australia are currently one of the best teams in the world, especially in the 50 over the format of the game. So, the series is bound to be the one full of close competitions. And, Dean Jones wants to see how the openers of the two teams, Rohit Sharma and David Warner battle it out in terms of scoring runs during the three matches that the teams would play.
India crushed Sri Lanka in the T20I series
As reported by the Business Line, Jones is quite confident regarding the abilities of the two in terms of scoring runs and winning matches. He said, “Rohit Sharma and David Warner are good at both sides of the ground. If you shut one side of the ground, they will find a way to get runs on the other side of the ground. These guys are not only physically fit, but mentally fit as well and they have a vivacious appetite for runs and I want to see who wins this battle.”
Team India will be starting the series on a high. India recently crushed the visiting Sri Lankan side in a T20I series and almost every department is up and running with red-hot form. Even the Aussies are not far behind as they are coming in with a streak of 9 wins in international cricket, with the most recent one being a Test series win against New Zealand.
With both the teams placed equally and the stage set for a fierce competition between the two sides, it will be interesting to see who wins this contest. And, gets the momentum on its side before the ICC tournament starts.
