The second day of the Abu Dhabi T10 League commenced with the Pune Devils taking on the Qalandars. After being put to bat by the Qalandars, the Devils managed a par total of 107 for 2 from their 10 overs on the back of a 28-ball 54 from Tom Kohler-Cadmore. Having lost Kennar Lewis cheaply, it was Darwish Rasooli who engaged with Cadmore for a 69-run stand, contributing 39 from 24 himself.
In response, Tom Banton and Sharjeel Khan (28 from 13) seemed to be in a rush, adding 52 from just 20 deliveries before Banton gave Munis Ansari a reverse catch, to end his 18-ball 45-run blitz. Skipper Sohail Akhtar, who slammed 7 fours during his 33 from 13, joined Khan to take his team across with a massive 17 balls to spare.
In the second rubber between Maratha Arabians and the Delhi Bulls, the latter tied up the scoring of Arabians by striking consistently with the ball. After the Bulls opted to field, severely economical spells from Aamad Butt and Fidel Edwards, who got a wicket each, did not allow their opponents to cut loose. It was Javed Ahmadi (24 from 19) and skipper Mosaddek Hossain’s late flourish (35 from 22) that took them to 87/4.
Chasing a sub-par total, Evin Lewis went berserk, as he slammed 7 sixes and a couple of fours in his 16-ball 55. Lewis, who was well-assisted by Ravi Bopara’s 12-ball 28, took Muktar Ali to the cleaners, hitting him for 33 in the 5th over. Lewis’ hasty assault meant that the Bulls stamped a victory in merely 5 overs at the loss of a solitary wicket.
As many as 13 wickets fell in the last fixture between Team Abu Dhabi and Deccan Gladiators in the third clash. Winning the toss, the Gladiators decided to field, and Zahoor Khan reaped instant rewards for the team, bagging crucial scalps of Chris Gayle and Paul Stirling in the opening over.
Jolted by the early strikes, Team Abu Dhabi failed to gather momentum, and even though Luke Wright (25 from 14) and Joe Clarke (21 from 11) made handy contributions, they could manage only 95 for 9. In response, a 24-ball 40 from skipper Cameron Delport and a 17-ball 24 from Kieron Pollard, after losing Mohammad Shahzad (21 from 14), guided the Gladiators to a 6-wicket win with two balls to spare.
