England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have decided to play a limited-overs series between the women’s team of both the nations in the month of October. This will be the first time in history that the England Women’s team will be traveling to Pakistan for 2 T20 Internationals followed by three ODIs with all the games set to be played in Karachi.
Pakistan will be hosting both England Men’s and Women’s teams in October as it was earlier revealed that the Men’s team will clash with the hosts in a two-match T20I series. This is the first tour to Pakistan in 16 years for England Men as well with their last visit coming way back in 2005.
PCB will be hosting the T20Is between both men and women’s teams of the two nations in Karachi on October 14 and 15 as double-headers. After the T20I series, England Men’s team will travel back to the country while Heather Knight’s side will then remain in Karachi to compete in three ODIs on October 18, 20 and 22.
Wasim Khan opines on England Women’s tour of Pakistan
Speaking about the Women’s tour to Pakistan, Clare Connor, the England and Wales Cricket Board Managing Director of Women’s Cricket stated, “The England Women’s cricket team has never toured Pakistan before so this is another important step in our history and journey.
“Not only will this be a cricket tour that provides valuable competitive opportunity to both teams, it should also serve as another powerful and positive message as we drive forward our equality ambitions for more women and girls to derive empowerment through the sport.” he added as quoted by India Today.
Former Pakistan cricketer and the Chief Executive of Pakistan Cricket Board, Wasim Khan also opined on the development saying that this tour will open more opportunities for both the nations. “I am confident the women’s tour will open up opportunities for future tours that will further contribute in promoting women’s cricket in Pakistan,” Wasim stated.
