Prior to the senior team’s tour of the West Indies, India A are in the Caribbean Islands for an unofficial five-match One Day series and a three-match unofficial Test series. As far as the 50-overs format is concerned, the visitors, led by Manish Pandey, have taken a 3-0 lead with two matches remaining. Meanwhile, a funny incident took place, surrounding young speedster Deepak Chahar.
Chahar, who made his ODI debut last year, picked up only one wicket in the first three encounters. After India’s World Cup campaign, Chahar would be keen to break into the national team. As far as the occurring is concerned, it took place in the 27th over after the fall of Devon Thomas’ wickets. At that point in time, the West Indies A were at 103/6, chasing a significant 295 runs in their 50 overs.
Chahar, wearing a white hat, was going back to his fielding position. He was in his own bubble before he saw Rahkeem Cornwall, the next batsman, walking towards him. Cornwall weighs a stunning 143 kg and a collision with him can be nasty. Chahar, noticed him charging in and almost barged into the hulk-like figure. Fortunately for him, just in the nick of time, he moved away and evaded the big man.

Coming to Cornwall, the 26-year-old all-rounder hasn’t had the best of outings. In the first match at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, he managed an eight-ball duck before perishing to leg-spinner Rahul Chahar. He got rid of Hanuma Vihari though. Second time around, he nipped out Manish Pandey with his slow off-breaks, but succumbed to another failure with the bat in hand, having gotten 13 runs.
The third game saw Cornwall dismiss Shubman Gill and the India A skipper, Shreyas Iyer. With the bat, he could contribute only five runs, being dismissed by Vihari. Cornwall may have had a disappointing outing in the One Dayers, but he has decent numbers in the domestic circuit. In 131 games, he has over 3,600 runs and more than 230 wickets. Last year, he also played for the St. Lucia Stars in the CPL.
