India and the Windies are scheduled to lock horns in a two-match Test series, which gets underway on August 22 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua. The tour ends with the second encounter at the Sabina Park, Kingston Jamaica, starting August 30. Prior to that, the visitors are set to play a warm-up match versus West Indies A at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.
The game starts on Saturday, August 17 and the Cricket West Indies (CWI) has named a 13-member squad for the encounter. The likes of John Campbell and Darren Bravo have also been included in the mix. Campbell and Bravo were parts of the Windies’ previous Test series against England as well. Even as the former played some useful knocks, Bravo didn’t have the greatest of times.
Bravo has been dismal even in limited-overs cricket and the southpaw will be somehow looking to come into his own in the practice match. Campbell has had to warm the benches of late. He played the opening T20I versus India at Lauderhill, Florida. Unfortunately, he got out to Washington Sundar and was replaced by Sunil Narine at the top of the order. He didn’t get to play the ODI series as well.
Bravo has eight centuries in the format in only 52 Tests, which shows that he has the ingredients to succeed at the highest level. Campbell averages 35.20 in three matches. For both Campbell and Bravo, the warm-up game will be an important one. The Test series against Virat Kohli and Co will also mark the start of Windies’ campaign in the ICC World Test Championship.
Jahamar Hamilton to lead the side
The warm-up squad will be captained by Jahamar Hamilton, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes wicketkeeper. The squad also features names likes Khary Pierre and Rovman Powell. Powell and Pierre played the T20Is, but couldn’t find a spot in the ODI team. Earlier this year, India rolled over Australia in the away-Test series and beating them won’t be an easy task.
