Australia managed to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against India by winning the second ODI at Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday by 51 runs. Former Australia cricketer Tom Moody believes that the main difference between the two cricketing superpowers is the presence of pacer Josh Hazlewood and spinner Adam Zampa in the Australian squad.
The Indian bowlers have failed to find the rhythm and the length thus far in the series. As a result, in both the ODIs, team India has leaked more than 370 runs in 50 overs. At the same time, the Australian bowlers looked in complete control as they dominated the Indian batsmen and managed to break any blooming match-defining partnership.
The right-arm fast-medium bowler Josh Hazlewood has impressed the who’s who of the cricket fraternity with his ability of consistently bowling short pitch deliveries. Hazelwood had picked three important wickets of Virat Kohli, Mayank Agarwal and Shreyas Iyer in the first ODI while he had again managed to send a settled Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan back to the pavilion in the second game.
Speaking about the heroics of Hazlewood , Tom Moody reckoned that Josh led the pace attack for Aussies against India and has been successful in bowling the traditional Australian hard length deliveries. He also named Hazlewood and Zampa as the difference between two nations.
Adam Zampa is the unsung hero of this whole thing, says Tom Moody
Talking to ESPNCricinfo, Tom Moody said, “To me, the big difference between the two teams has been Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa. Hazlewood has bowled the traditional Australian hard length which sits about 6 inches above the stumps.”
“He has bowled very straight. Hazlewood is a lot quicker than people give him credit for- he is in the 140s – and does hit the bat very hard. He has got a very good bouncer as well. He had been the leader of the pack for Australia from the pace bowling perspective,” the former SRH coach said.
Adam Zampa, on the other hand, has also been impressive with the ball as he had thrashed the visitors middle order in the first ODI by taking 4 wickets along with naming 2 wickets in the second ODI too. The veteran cricketer lauded Zampa saying that he is the unsung hero of the Australian team in ODIs.
“I think Zampa has also bowled very well and he continues to bowl well against India and in ODI cricket over the last couple of years. He is the unsung hero of this whole thing,” Tom Moody added.
